Ideals of beauty have been around for a long time. The pressure to meet artificial perfection keeps increasing, which secretly also takes its toll on the fabricated pretty pictures themselves. In this animated music video for Bent’s song To Be Loved, we follow the story of an insecure fashion-illustration with a knack for melodrama, who is obsessed with her flawless idol.

Girls have received the message that their appearance plays a vital role in their worth. There is enough attention devoted to the female physique, but less to what goes on behind the looks. My work shows the conflict behind the pretty picture: the will to love yourself and the inner resentment that comes from comparing yourself to idealized pictures, perfectionism and low self-esteem. It takes work, but in the end you only need to be accepted by one person, and that is yourself.
