A Dutch dinner

This project is about the Dutch society and its great diversity in cultural backgrounds. How valuable is that cultural diversity? Sofie wants to encourage people to get to know each other. She believes that the power of our diverse society can only thrive if we connect and respect each other.

Sofie inspired herself by arranging personal dinners with seven people who live close by. During these enriching dinners, she got to know these persons and their cultural backgrounds, being all different. She gathered information that she later used to design her final work; a big tablecloth in which all these people’s cultures are merged together.

This work is symbolic for our Dutch society. A typical Dutch person does not exist anymore. We are all Dutch, but we are all different and unique. So, get together. Listen, taste, get to know each other. Because there is so much beauty to discover.
